  Avoiding Scams

Dealing with the possibility of foreclosure is already a difficult time. Unfortunately, scam artists often try to take advantage of homeowners. If you are struggling to meet your mortgage commitment or are anxious to sell your home, you must be extra careful. If you get anything in the mail from a company purporting to modify or lower your mortgage payment for a FEE, do not sign up.

Do not sign over the deed to your property to any organization or individual unless you are working directly with your mortgage servicer to forgive your debt. Contact your local, or state, housing authority by clicking on this link.

The Federal Housing and Urban Development website
www.Hud.gov also provide resources to help you with your mortgage. All of these resources are FREE. For a HUD-approved counselor, visit HUD online or contact HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at 1-800-669-9777. Beware of Beware of anyone who says they can “save” your home if you sign or transfer over the deed to your house.
