Miss Mfonobong Essiet 2007-2008  (Miss Africa USA From Nigeria)

In Oct 2007, Miss Mfonobong Essiet from Miami was crowned Miss Africa USA 2007-2008.
Miss Mfonobong left a lasting impression on the minds of the Judges and the audience who attended the show
the prestigeous Hindu Temple in Norcross Georgia.  Over 1000 guests packed the hall to watch the event unfold.
Miss Mfonobong Essiet brought out the Akwa Ibom - Nigerian culture to Georgia, from the regalia, to her walk , talent and her speech, she just did it.

Miss Mfonobong, at the time of the pageant was enrolled in a Masters degree program at a Florida University. Her goal being to become a cardiac surgeon in the near future.  Her platform for the pageant was therefore linked to her career: 'IMPROVING HEALTH CARE IN AFRICA'.  She therefore set out to donate medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics.

Soon after winning the pageant, she visited her homeland, Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria to perform a needs assessment for various hospitals and health centers. She found out for herself the harsh conditions that healthcare workers were working under, with limited supplies, shortage of basic supplies like gloves etc.

Miss Mfonobong was invited to visit MedShare International in Georgia, by the Executive Director of the Pageant, Lady Kate Njeuma. On the tour of MedShare, Miss Mfonobong witnessed first hand the availability of hospital supplies and equipment that could be donated to the hospitals in Nigeria.

Miss Mfonobong went about seeking sponsors and raising funds for  the project and was able to donate a 40ft container of Medical supplies and equipment to 6 hospitals and health care centers in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

During her reign, Miss Essiet was invited to speak at several community events across the United States, promoting the African culture. She has mentored young children in the Miami area, working with the Miami Children's Fund, a non-profit organization based in Miami, Florida.

She made several appearances as Miss Africa USA during her reign.

Miss Mfonobong successfully graduated with a Masters Degree in 2009.
